CARCs are more than just camouflage, they are a nonabsorbent paint coating, resistant to life-threatening chemical, biological, and radioactive agents, and when correctly applied to a vehicle, it allows for easy decontamination. Usually, decontamination is a necessary, but expensive and time-consuming process, however, because CARCs are so resistant, they’re surfaces are much easier to neutralize and hold up better against decontaminating solutions.

Most significant is CARC’s ability to manage its infrared signature. Each color in its camouflage system includes a specialized pigment that gives the appearance of chlorophyll to infrared sensors. Thus blending CARC coated equipment in with its surrounding environment and rendering it “invisible” to Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems (MANPADS) and many other missile systems.
